I was out walking on St Georges Day and what did I come across? Some St Georges Day Mushrooms. I don’t know what they call them in the US. They can be distinguished by the fact that they occur in Spring, have white gills and do NOT bruise red. As usual I nervously ate one and then waited to see if I died before eating any more, as this is the first time I have picked them. They dry exceptionally well, and I will be on the lookout for them next year. They tend to turn up in the same place each year, of course.Yes…I know its a big plate of food but I had been walking MILES!
