At the end of last month I got four rescue hens from the British Hen Welfare Trust. They were in pretty poor condition. Unfortunately one of them died but thats the true cost of cheap eggs. Fortunately the three that survived are thriving. I am feeding them on a specialist feed for ex bats. They havent got any idea where to lay an egg, one laid an egg at 11 30 at night, and thats the first time I have ever known that happen. You can track the health of the hens by their eggs. The top eggs are day one, the bottom day three .

Rather scraggy ex batts, who didnt know how to walk!
